Florida Keys Area Dive Sites Palm Beach Ft. Lauderdale Miami-Dade Florida Keys |
A 49-foot tower marks Tennessee Reef found off Long Key. In the shallow depths you will find abundant sea fans. There are also many stands of brain, lettuce and star corals. The yellowhead wrasse, foureye butterflyfish and gray angelfish are often seen here as well as the occasional highhat, porkfish and trumpetfish. The "Bridesmaid" wreck went aground here in January of 1889, carrying a load of lumber. The area between Alligator Reef and Tennessee Reef is the longest span of sandy bottom in the Florida Keys reef system. Without a barrier reef to break up ocean wave action, the shoreline of Long Key State Park is blessed with beautiful sandy dunes and pristine beaches. |
