Pillar Coral Patch

One of our favorite dive sites in the Keys, this small patch of reef features very healthy stands of pillar coral, rising majestically toward the surface in about 20 feet of water. Some of the dive operators in Tavernier know about this special place, but you rarely see it mentioned in the dive guides. That's alright, since these impressive stands of pillar coral are a rare find, and might be easily damaged by excessive boat and diver traffic. If you're interested in the Pillar Coral Patch, ask some of the dive shops in Tavernier if they offer this site as a second dive before returning to shore.
