Florida Keys Area Dive Sites Palm Beach Ft. Lauderdale Miami-Dade Florida Keys |
Pickles Reef got it's name from the pickle barrels filled with mortar left during the Civil War days. Stands of Pillar coral (rare nowadays) can be found amongst other corals on this pretty reef in 12-25 feet. Tropical fish abound and this is an ideal snorkeling reef. Dive operators from southern Key Largo and Tavernier often visit this site as a second dive. Boats that take snorkelers and divers together also find this relatively shallow reef an excellent choice. Ledges, crevasses and small caves offer plenty of shelter for schools of yellowtails and grunts, as well as many tropical and juvenile species. |
