Florida Keys Area Dive Sites Palm Beach Ft. Lauderdale Miami-Dade Florida Keys |
Coffins Patch is 4.6 miles off Marathon with depths of 15 to 30 feet, an excellent dive for beginners. This makes a great dive after the Thunderbolt, especially on a day with strong currents. This is a healthy reef with pillar, star and convoluted brain coral which totally cover the shallow patch reef. There is a Spanish galleon which foundered here in 1733. Fish watchers can spot all five angelfish species found in the Keys, including queen, blue, French, gray and rock beauty. French grunts are also plentiful and there are very few barracuda, compared to other areas of the Keys.n |
