Florida Keys Area Dive Sites Palm Beach Ft. Lauderdale Miami-Dade Florida Keys |
Like the Duane, the Bibb is a 327 foot Coast Guard cutter that was donated to the marine sanctuary when these vessels were retired. Like the Duane, she was sunk slowly by opening the seacocks and letting her flood. The biggest difference is the Bibb landed on her side in about 135 feet of water, offering only 40 feet of relief, and limited bottom times. The Bibb is not a regular destination for commercial dive boats in the Key Largo area. You can ask some of the local divemasters for a recommendation -- some "6-pack" boats take small groups to this wreck from time to time, or you can charter your own dive boat and head out on your own. Listing 90 degrees, the Bibb can be offer the inexperienced diver problems with disorientation within the superstructure. Since this dive is potentially beyond the recommended safe diving depth of 130 feet, only experienced wreck divers should attempt a dive on the Bibb.n |
