Miami Area Dive Sites The Dive Charter Operator I recommend to dive these wreck sites is: RJ Diving Ventures |
Whistle Buoy
Underneath, and just nroth and east of the buoy lies a healthy, Gulfstream nourished reef: inside in the 45'-60' range it is a rather flat and then separated by a strip of sand, the outside deeper reef lies beyond. The outside section comprises the mini-wall; a drop from 60 to over 100 feet which continues for a couple of miles. An unusual feature of the outside ledge is the normally consistent 2-3 knot northerly current that brings in clean, clear Gulfstream water. This situation makes a drift dive ideal. This is an exhilarating dive with a natural reef formation which is composed of hills and rifts lushly covered with deep water gorgonians and barrel sponges big enough to belong in Cayman! Large pelagics such as squadrons of eagle rays and sharks as well as large turtles are not uncommon. |
