Miami Area Dive Sites The Dive Charter Operator I recommend to dive these wreck sites is: RJ Diving Ventures |
Fowey Light was constructed atop Fowey Rocks back in 1876, after a local indian attack on the Cape Florida Lighthouse. The reef, marked with a 120 foot tower sits in 10 to 40 feet of water here with plenty of grouper, snapper, yellowtail and lobsters. The remains of a steamer, Arakanapka (try saying it three times) can be found in the shallows just northwest of the tower. Visit nearby Car Frame Reef, totally overgrown with healthy corals. Boca Chica Key offers a harbor, rest rooms and plenty of picnic tables. This is a favorite lunch stop for South Florida boaters. Further south, at the northern end of Elliott Key, Sands Cut is a narrow passageway between the bay and the ocean. With an eye out for frequent boat traffic, excellent snorkeling and shallow diving are available where the outer reef environment transcends to bayside mangroves. |
