Miami Area Dive Sites The Dive Charter Operator I recommend to dive these wreck sites is: RJ Diving Ventures |
The Deep Freeze was sunk in the artificial reef site known as Pflueger, located north of Government Cut and south of Haulover Islet in approximately 135 feet of water. This is considered an advanced dive. You can reach her top deck in 100 feet of water. The Deep Freeze is large, over 210 feet in length, and made of steel. It has been down for many years, sunk back in October 1976. Before the vessel was scuttled most of her superstructure was removed, but the deck and several cabins are intact. Hurricane Andrew separated a 35 foot section of the stern from the hull in 1992. Colonies of Atlantic spiny oysters whose name comes appropriately from the pointy spines that protrude from their shells, seem to proliferate everywhere on the Deep Freeze. The wreck is located at loran coordinates Lattitude 25 49' 18.2" Longitude 80 4' 57.1" |
