Miami Area Dive Sites The Dive Charter Operator I recommend to dive these wreck sites is: RJ Diving Ventures |
For over 20 years, Ben Mostkoff, formerly of the Department of Environmental Resource Management, had been sinking materials to create artificial reefs sites for divers and fishermen in South Florida. This site is often referred to as "Ben's Antenna Reef." In the Anchorage Site, off South Beach, in 50 feet of water, 15 antenna pyramids have been formed using sections of radio towers. Each rises approximately 20 feet off the bottom. These antenna pyramids were designed by Ben to attract marine life, and that they have. The structures offer the maximum amount of surface for the water flow so they are quite successful. The Antenna Reef is also successful because of its location within clusters of other experimental materials and wrecks in the area. Nearby are the Miss Karlene, the Patricia, as well as the Rock Pile and 400 tons of concrete pipe, each 8 feet in diameter. The area is prolific with sea life as a result of these artificial reefs. |
