Ft. Lauderdale Area Dive Sites - Broward County Palm Beach Ft. Lauderdale Miami-Dade Florida Keys |
Dale Scutti purchased a harbor tugboat in the summer of 1986. It had been used to assist oil tankers coming in and out of the oil refinery in Aruba. He donated the 100 foot tug to Broward County's Artificial Reef Program in order to be sunk in memory of his son, Jay, who had been a diving enthusiast. The Jay Scutti tugboat was sunk a month later in 72 feet of water about one mile off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale on the inside of the third reef line. She lists to her port and her stack sits in about 45 feet of water, the shallowest portion of the wreck. The Jay Scutti rests between two sailing vessels and divers can easily explore these other wrecks during the same dive. Only 120 feet from the bow of the Scutti lies the Moonshot, a 40 foot demasted sailboat that lies on its starboard side. And only 150 feet from the stern of the Scutti lies the 95 foot steel hulled schooner, Pride. Lots of marine life inhabits this area, drawn to the wreckage and hiding places. |
