Meet Robin Burr, Scuba Instructor

Biographical Information
Robin is a rum enthusiast who has enjoyed discovering quality rum since her scuba diving travels began. She and her husband, Rob published their scuba magazine, Fisheye View, from 1987 until 1992 when they sold it to Rodale's Scuba Diving. Traveling the Caribbean and South Pacific in search of the world's best scuba diving afforded them the opportunity to discover the "world's best rums" on every island they visited from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to Papua New Guinea. They discovered Hogsty Reef, the only true Atoll in the Atlantic, in the southeastern Bahamas, and led scuba expeditions there in the early 1990's. Robin is author and photographer of two CD-ROM products: Coral Collection and Reef Collection (Quantum Leap Technologies, 1993, 1994).

Who knew this vast knowledge would catapult them into another career in the "rum" industry 20 years later?

Robin is a no-nonsense manager and leader whose organizational skills have developed the Burr's well attended rum tasting events, which have lead to producing the Western Hemisphere's largest rum festival each year: Miami Rum Renaissance. They also host the Rum Renaissance Caribbean Cruise, an adventure for rum enthusiasts to visit distilleries and rum shops on many islands (deja vu!) Robin also organizes all the advertising, design and layout, as well as the distribution of Rob's Rum Guide. Robin is an excellent photographer with a great "eye" for angles and composition and takes most of the photos that are published in the guide and on the web sites. Robin also organizes the RumXP Blind Tasting Competition that takes place each year at the Rum Renaissance Festival, with the assistance of her son, Rob V. Burr.

Robin embraces the Tiki influence from the South Pacific and enjoys drinking rum both straight (with some ice), or in a wonderful cocktail like the Pain Killer or Goombay Smash. She enjoys the unique creations made by her son Rob, aka RumScout.
